the north bay. 5:00 a.m. friday to 5:00 p.m. sunday, all that moisture starts to spread south along the peninsula, and then for us here in the south, because it is such a slow-moving storm system, we're going to have to wait until 11:00 a.m. friday until 9:00 a.m. sunday. now, let me just give you a preliminary look at what we're expecting. four to six inches, like i said. valley floor, napa, marin and sonoma county. high elevation, six to 12 inches. two and a half to four inches on the east shore in san francisco. and down the peninsula. and then here in the south bay, we will see a little bit of that rain shadow effect from the santa cruz mountain, an inch and a half to two and a half inches of rain. santa cruz mountains could pick up six to eight inches of rain. so we do want to make sure you're prepared for that. i'm going to have a list of storm preps to help you out in my next report. but first, mike is going to help you out getting to work this morning. that weekend looks like indoor plans best idea. >> mental note. indoor this weekend. looking toward fremont, outdoors, this is our camera still looking at the activity. flas

the north bay. saturday, we will see a good, decent amount even in the south bay. here is the thing with these computer models. they have been fluctuating each and every day. yesterday, 1-2 inches in the south bay. today, only about .10 of an inch. each and every day, the flip-flat game. i do think we will get more in the south bay. there is so much moisture with this system. and, for the past few days, they have had 2-3 inches across the south bay. again, fluctuating each and every day. this will be something we watch pretty closely. of course, a little bit of wish casting there. we could use some of that rain across the south bay. i want you to check out this year's snow pack. this is where it all comes from. last year, we only had about 8% for where we should be. still below where we should be. the odds not all that great for catching up. we haven't seen a whole lot of rain. the thing about it, vicky, may is when we usually hit 100% across the snow pack. we still have this month and march and april to catch up. granted, we haven't seen a whole lot thus far. so wi

if you're doing plans across the south bay, there you go, hour by hour forecast. bay, 59 for hayward this afternoon. 60 for fremont. sunol, dublin, expecting 60 degrees, even livermore, antioch, up to 61. wherever you go across the bay, temperatures very consistent from each microclimate zone. even in san francisco today. 59 twin peaks. castro, mission districter 59. embarcadero, 58. you get the picture, you need a jacket. next storm system, you can see, it's a big one but un-natefortuy it's going to lose power and moisture, it's going to work up towards the pacific northwest. by sunday. we'll be dry tomorrow and monday the system moves through. yeah it's not going to produce a lot of rainfall but more mountain snow about 4 to 8 inches more of snow headed to the sierra, even on top of the couple of inches today. that's good news for the mountains. unfortunately for us, a little bit of rain today and same story for monday. you know what? it's going to head towards tuesday and wednesday, back up to 70 degrees. something for everybody. >> if you don't like the weathe

the weather department, heavy rain within the next 48 hours for parts of the bay area, starting up in the north bay. all that activity will spread to the south as we head throughout late thursday into friday but we're looking good for rain even down here in the south bay, significant rainfall maybe one and a half to two and a half inches, if everything plays out just right. this is a very slow moving storm system, but you can see for the next five days, three out of five talking about showers in san francisco, two out of five here in the south bay. so let me show you what we're talking about. stop that clock for you at 8:00 on thursday, that's when the heaviest rises, the showers will start by about 7:00 a.m. on thursday morning. then everything spreads to the south as we head throughout friday at 7:00 p.m. at that point it's just starting to get active in the south bay. nonetheless, we're talking about 24 straight hours of moderate to heavy rainfall coming down in the north bay and another round of localized flooding certainly possible. stop that clock for you again, saturday at 10:00 p.m., it's still raining heavily, and then finally as we

the north bay. mainly cloudy as well for the south bay peninsula and east bay, with temperatures starting in the 40s. but we are going to see some key changes in the forecast as we head throughout wednesday. now, as we get a look what we're going to see here is through most of today we had that westerly wind pulling in that fog here from the pacific at about 5 to 10 miles per hour. that wind speed. by tomorrow in the bay area it's just a small change in the winds that can really switch things up for us. we're going to see the winds coming slightly more out of the north. that should be good enough to cut off the fog flow by the afternoon to allow a little bit more sunshine in that forecast. let's go ahead and take a look. you can see 7:30 tomorrow morning, as we mentioned, it's going to start off gray here in contra costa, alameda, santa clara counties right through the peninsula, also for the north bay as well. by 1:00 p.m. we should see a lot of this push back to the coastline and at least partly cloudy skies expected here for the bay area. and once again for tomorrow no mild beach weather like we

the north bay as per usual. i continue stop that clock. friday at 4:00 p.m. that's when we start to get our heavy stuff in the south bay. be light for the most part throughout the early portion of your friday down here in the south bay. meanwhile, we're talking about 24 hours of moderate to heavy rainfall at that point on friday up in the north bay. as to be expected with rain rates like this and our highways not equipped to receive this kind of rainfall all at once looks like we'll see localized flooding. we could see some very very heavy downpours come through, even with some thunderstorms. i want to give you a little idea of how the models are now in better agreement. last week we talked about this. at this point, this is the latest from the european model. 2 inches in san jose. 3 inches in santa rosa. the gfs, the one i usually go with, let's let this thing run. through thursday into sunday 2.5 inches. they're becoming a little more in agreement. for me, that gives me a little bit more confidence that we're going to get at least an inch and a half to maybe 2 1/2 inches in the south bay. almost 5 inches certainly poss

it's all about the south bay. all day long it was the north bay getting the heaviest rainfall but mother nature is now sharing. those of you in san jose are getting much-needed rainfall. right across the dumbarton bridge, palo alto, over to fremont, newark, hayward, livermore, danville, walnut creek, morgan hill, gilroy, everybody in the south bay is getting a lot of rain right now. here's some wonderful news. the snow level was forecast to be 8,000 feet. i'm happy to report it's not at 8,000 feet. currently it's at 6,000 feet. that means a lot of snowfall at lower elevations. more snow is great. four to twelve inches at 6,000 feet. about 8,000 feet a foot or two with winds up to 80, 90 miles an hour but lots of snow in the sierra right now. fanfest weekend the giants on saturday, the better day of the two as you go say hello to your world champion giants. and the a's, that's on sunday, rain on sunday especially if you plan on get there is when the gates open at 10 a.m. here's the setup. round number one we're livi

clouds a few spots of precipitation likely down in the south bay. as we look at the overnight conditions, we'll see there's the rain line. notice most of the activity and the chance of thunder will be in the south bay, south of that line that cuts through across the pins and over to the east pay. as we continue into tomorrow we'll see, again chance of thunder and showers. mainly in the south bay and the south bay mountains, but later, the line moves northward. even san francisco to oakland and locations along the peninsula can see showers and a chance of thunder. looking farther ahead, by 11:00 saturday evening, it looks like it will be out of here. rainfall totals probably no greater than just a few hundredths of an inch in most locations, but heavier totals in the south bay up to almost .9 inch in san jose. and snow totals in the sierra will be more impressive south of lake tahoe. we expect winter weather advisory in effect. 4 to 8 inches of snow above 5500 feet and up to a foot of snow possible in the higher peaks and delays and chain requirements
