amy hollyfield has been on the scene since 4:30 this morning. she joins us now. the fire chief has just arrived? >> reporter: that's right. the fire chief sin sigh the home now. firefighters say it -- chief inside the home now. fires say it is unusual to have two fatalities the is here to review everything and check on this case and how it was handled. it is being considered a crime scene because of the two fatalities. firefighters arrived about 3:30 this morning when they got here 20 fewesque upstairs was on -- 25% of the upstairs was on fire there was a lot of smoke they were surprised to find a lot of stuff. they state was tough to navigate around it. they knew they needed to get in and move around this home as quickly as possible. >> crews agrees sill took a hose line to cover them says and up to the front stairs to go ahead and effect a rescue for possible occupants. they were contained with very heavy debris and on cuts a challenge to get to the fire.çf >> reporter: some of those piles were eight feet high maybe higher it presented a real challenge am i wa

firefighters on the scene near mission and silver also on the scene amy hollyfield with more. >> reporter: a firefighter reported that he found a man inside a victim inside who appeared to have passed on. they did take the victim away in an ambulance they have not confirmed how that victim is doing. that was the report on the scene. now you will see firefighters are still focused inside the home. the neighbors told them two elderly men lived here they are making sure that everyone is out of the home. the fire is out. it started at 3:30 this morning. they got it out in 30 minutes. it is happening here in the ex-sill -- in the excel district. neighbors were worried it was going to spread. firefighters appeared to have kept it to just this house. now you can see they are focused on this home making sure everyone is out. there's a lot of debris inside it is going to take time to get through. they are still focused on this home. they've blocked off a few streets. they are -- they say the fire is out. the captain is still very busy in the middle of this and hasn't had a minute to brief us yet.

amy hollyfield joins us from city hall. >> reporter: good morning. commissioners did not want to sit silently today, they have questions, tough questions for both sides. supporters applauded as ross mirkarimi walked into a haerg room with a confident smile and with his mother and wife by his side. the ethics commission will recommend today whether he should keep his job. an attorney for the city was ready to deliver a 40 minute long closing argument, spelling out why mirkarimi should be fired. but, a commissioner quickly interrupted with questions about the commission's power and the evidence. >> how can an active domestic violence be transfered into saying that is a misconduct in relation to his office? >> reporter: the defense also faced some heat from the commissioner who scolded mirkarimi's attorneys for what they wrote in legal briefs. >> you didn't do your client any favor by starting off your brief by saying at the end of an unnecessary protracted dog and pony show. is that what you consider these proceedings to be? >> umm, respectfully commis

let's begin with amy hollyfield live in lake county with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. the views up here are beautiful, but not today. it is very hazy up here, there's a lot of smoke, these fires are still going strong. look at this video shot by sky 7 hd this morning many even though the weather cooperated overnight the fires burning near clearlake were still very active. firefighters called in extra resources to help today, evacuated residents waited for news. >> in the trucks, vans, that's why we look like we do. >> reporter: becky set up camp in the parking lot of the moose lodge on highway 20. she evacuated five horses and five dogs in 15 minutes yesterday. she says the horses usually fight getting in the trailer1x not this time. >> they were waiting at the gate before it got bad. they smelled the smoke or something. >> reporter: the lodge parking lot became a gathering spot for people trying to pass through on highway 20. firefighters unexpectedly shut it down this morning while they conducted a controlled burn. >> i had an appointment at 10:30 and 12:30 at work.

amy hollyfield is live at the clinic in san lorenzo. >> reporter: good morning. starred lining up at 3:00 this morning to -- started lining up at 3:00 this morning. one man came all the way from los angeles. volunteers didn't know what to expect when they decided to offer free dental care today. they sure didn't think they would see this. >> astounding. i did not think this many would show up. >> reporter: this is the first time they've held a free clinic. the doctor heard about the non-profit group dentistry from the heart and decided she wanted to participate. but she had little time for organizing she enlisted the help of her 16-year-old daughter. >> guess this shows how much people need help especially with the economy and everything. >> reporter: they are helping people like eric who hasn't soon a dentist since he lost his job. maybe about a year and a half, two, same time i lost the job i lost everything, insurance no coverage. >> reporter: mario has a job but he still hasn't been able to afford dental care. >> i didn't have dental my company didn't offer i

amy hollyfield is live with a preview. >> reporter: chevron has received more than 18,000 claims so far. today the company plans to bring a number of agencies together to brief people on how the investigation is going so far. people informed themselves saturday, they went to a seminar about learning your rights put together by some attorneys. one attorney says more than 3,000 have signed up to seek legal action against chevron. plaintiffs' attorneys say they believe the fire at the refinery was preventable. some community leaders have questioned whether chevron has done all it could the fire -- it could since the fire. although there does seem to be plenty of interest in suing chevron, there are some who are skeptical. >> it took eight years for the '92 fire to get $100. they took all that money and one guy bought an island they said. they get paid and we get played. >> reporter: chevron did announce it will compensate people for any injuries. there are attorneys and community leaders, warning people and saying they need to demand more. today's meeting is set to be one in a series of re

let's begin with amy hollyfield live in lake county with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. the views up here are beautiful, but not today. it is very hazy up here, there's a lot of smoke, these fires are still going strong. look at this video shot by sky 7 hd this morning many even though the weather cooperated overnight the fires burning near clearlake were still very active. firefighters called in extra resources to help today, evacuated residents waited for news. >> in the trucks, vans, that's why we look like we do. >> reporter: becky set up camp in the parking lot of the moose lodge on highway 20. she evacuated five horses and five dogs in 15 minutes yesterday. she says the horses usually fight getting in the trailer1x not this time. >> they were waiting at the gate before it got bad. they smelled the smoke or something. >> reporter: the lodge parking lot became a gathering spot for people trying to pass through on highway 20. firefighters unexpectedly shut it down this morning while they conducted a controlled burn. >> i had an appointment at 10:30 and 12:30 at work.
