meteorologist kari hall, of course, has been monitoring that. the good thing is we're starting out the mornings nice and cool. >> we're starting out nice and cool. we don't think we'll set new records, but it will definitely be hotter than we like to see. as we get started in san mateo, your morning commute is starting out cloudy and cool temperatures once again. you don't yet need the air-conditioning. it will be in the mid to upper 50s for the morning. as we go throughout the day, staying nice and mild here but temperatures will be spreading out. we can see along the coastline parts of the peninsula stays nice and mild, 60s and 70s. then as you head toward the tri-valley, the inland east bay could be as hot as 103 degrees in fairfield with upper 80s and low 90s in the north bay. tomorrow is the peak of the heat and we're going to see a lot of triple digits from martinez to concord, over toward livermore and down to san martin and morgan hill we're going to see some really hot temperatures. also very hot on sunday, but in san francisco you can

. >> i'm marcus washington, and kari hall has been timing this heat hour by hour.re starting to see these numbers climb. >> especially in the inland valleys and it will be a wide range in temperatures for the weekend so it really just depends on where you are and how intense that heat will be. looking at today's highes, uppe livermore and low 90s for santa rosa and then notice san francisco will be in the upper 60s and low 70s as you head down the peninsula. we'll crank it up even more with hotter temperatures tomorrow in the inland areas and that's when we start to see the triple digits moving into fairfield and upper 90s for concord and morgan hill and mid-90s for santa rosa, and then looking at saturday. that's the peak of the heat and it can be as hot as 108 degrees in fairfield. that's going to be some dangerous heat and we'll see those temperatures over 100 degrees in those hottest spots from the south county to the inland east bay all of the way up to the far north bay and it's going to last for several hours. the good thing is that we will have places to go

we'll get a look at the forecast with meteorologist kari hall in a moment. >>> first, we want to start with breaking news. mike has been tracking a major injury crash in the south bay. it's blocking all lanes of the freeway? >> southbound 101 completely shut down. i know some folks will say that's opposite the morning commute. it doesn't matter. first of all, there's not much of a commute so both sides basically have the same amount of traffic. southbound being completely shut down. it's a huge issue. i believe caltrans workers will be out to put cones out, this is south 101 just past tully, everything shuts down by capital expressway. there's no traffic through this stretch. folks are being forced off at tully. you can see the traffic. those in the backup were getting off at capital expressway. that will take you over to king, mclaughlin will get you past the scene. northbound, that is the commute direction, but it's very light traffic throughout the south bay, and we do have one more incident affecting highway 85, or at least the on-ramp. we'll bring you those details on the surface

let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. she's been tracking those temperatures for us. >> for most of us around the bay area we're still taking a break from the extreme heat and we're starting out with our nice, usual cool morning that gives us a chance before those temperatures heat up in the valley. so we're in the upper 50s right now in livermore, we're in the mid-50s in sonoma, and we take a look at mountain view where we're going to see temperatures in the upper 50s in the next couple of hours. and then a mild day for today, with a mostly sunny sky. around the bay area we'll see temperatures in oakland reaching 69, 89 degrees in gilroy. you can see the range in temperatures with brentwood today still hitting 100 degrees. we'll get a look at some hotter temperatures in our forecast in a few minutes. >>> mike has a look at where we can find lower gas prices. >> livermore are back in the top ten for the state but it's the same price, so everything else is changing. $4.09, diamond gas and mart on south front road. solano c

we begin with meteorologist kari hall. and this just went into place, right? >> right.s is for the interior valleys across parts of the bay area. i want to show you a map so you know whether or not you're included. this will be in effect from now through 11:00 on sunday as our temperatures heat up anywhere from 90 degrees to 104. but we're also going to see lower humidity and increased fire danger, so during these hottest hours of the day, make sure you're drinking lots of water and taking care of yourself as well as pets. take a look at the range in temperatures here. we're still in the 50s in san francisco, but when you go to the north bay, it's in the upper 70s. and the farther you go inland, the hotter it is already at this hour. we're at 82 in martinez and 91 in vacaville. we're already seeing some low 80s in san martin. when you compare the temperatures now to yesterday at this time, it's up to 16 degrees warmer at this hour than yesterday, so the heat is ramping up. we're also getting some drifts of smoke coming in, so we are monitoring the air quality as ozone a

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the temps for us today. and, kari, what are we looking at today? >> a nice view this morning of san jose. starting out with a few breaks in the clouds. it's going to clear out quickly. let's head to morgan hill with a look at how the morning will shape up, mid-50s to start. you do need a jacket for now. it's going to warm up as we head toward late morning into the afternoon. overall a really comfortable day compared to what we had recently with a high of 83 degrees in morgan hill and 75 in martinez. san mateo will hit a high of 71 today. we'll talk about what's ahead for the rest of the week coming up. >>> mike has a look at where we can find lower gas prices. >> we have san jose in the top ten for the state. that's great. today we have $3.99 at express gas on redmond avenue, and in solano county the best price is $4.11 in vallejo at the shell on tennessee street. alameda county's best at the bottom is $4.15 at superior gas on washington avenue in san leandro. want to thank you for reporting through gasbuddy.

meteorologist kari hall had told us about that wildfire smoke from oregon yesterday. how are things looking today? >> we're starting out clear, so as we take a live look outside in san francisco, it will be another hazy day. we're going to still see drifts of smoke coming down from that fire. what's happening is we have this northerly wind so all of the smoke that's been gathering in southwestern oregon from the flat fire is coming in directly into the bay area. we're going to see more of that where we see the greens that indicate moderate air quality, and then as we see it turn yellow and red, that's unhealthy for people who are especially sensitive to wildfire smoke. and it's going to be hotter today. take a look at these numbers. in santa rosa reaching 94 degrees, the record is 99 degrees. so we are staying below a record high for today. san francisco reaching 72, oakland in the upper 70s, and livermore may be about 9 degrees below a record high temperature, while san jose will be in the upper 80s for tod

meteorologist kari hall has some helpful tips for what signs to look for if you think you may be experiencing one. >> as it gets dangerously hot over these next few days, we want to make sure you're taking care of yourself and people around you and notice the signs of anything just off as we deal with this heat. now, heat exhaustion, the symptoms of that is heavy sweating or you may have weakness or fainting, as well as pale or clammy skin or muscle cramps. that's when you need to get hydrated, move into the shade or move into the air-conditioning. more severe is heat stroke. at that point there may not be any more sweating, a throbbing headache, as well as hot red, dry skin, or you may lose consciousness. that's when you need to seek some medical help and call 911. now, we're going to have some dangerous heat you need to pay attention to how you feel and make sure that you're taking care of any of those symptoms. now let's send it over to mike with a look at how this morning's commute is rolling. >>> there's one hot spot on our report, that's what they're called on the alert by chp pops up o
