joining me now, msnbc national security analyst clint watts. he's a former fbi special agent, distinguished research fellow. fbi assistant colorado springs police at the scene, can you walk us through the row federal pages newton's play? >> time there's a mass shooting like this, one of the principal things they can do is forensics and evidence. when you have this many bullets, this many targets. this many people wounded and injured, it is a skill that the fbi has in some capacity they have. most state local police departments don't have it. we absolutely need to get to the bottom of what was the motive behind this. the fbi can help run a lot of those leads out to other agencies other states, make sure this is a lone perpetrator. number one, it's not a broader network of individuals. it might be perpetrated attacks. also, do we have or see any copycats? this is something in terms of techniques or networks. we've seen it time and time again. one mass shooting can tip off a contagion effect where there are other people targeted in a similar fashi
